CORT'E' AND SURROUNDINGS
The residence is located in the center of Catania, 900 meters from Piazza Duomo and the historic Via Etnea that runs through the city, even reaching the Etna, through the foothills. Nearby points of interest include the Le Ciminiere Exhibition Center, the Greco-Roman amphitheater, the shopping area, between Corso Italia and Piazza Europa, and the Catania-Fontanarossa Airport, which is only 4 km away.
THE CITY
Melior de cinere surgo (Reborn from the ashes most beautiful than before): it is the sentence on the Porta Garibaldi of Catania. It was the motto of the mythical phoenix and sums up the history of the city well. Destroyed nine times by earthquakes, eruptions, invasions, many have been rebuilt. Today is the city of the reconstruction of 1693, when a violent earthquake razed it to the ground. The period is the Baroque period, a style used to reconstruct almost all the noble palaces and churches, which today represent an architectural complex of exceptional value. This is why the historic center of Catania is protected by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site.
THE SEA
The Catanese coast offers beaches for all tastes: from those of golden sand (the Plaia, miles of beach from Catania to the south, on the border with Lentini) to the lava rock cliff (going to the north, from the city center to municipalities of Acicastello, Acitrezza, Acireale and Timpa).
THE VOLCANO
The Etna, UNESCO World Heritage Site, is one of the most active volcanoes in the world, and is about 30 km from Catania. The visit of the volcano attracts thousands of visitors every year, in every season. During the summer it is particularly interesting to see the lava flows and the wonderful panorama, and take part in excursions on the craters extinguished up to a height of 3100 meters. In winter, you can enjoy the same view and look at the sea while skiing from the Nicolosi plant.
